The A team continued to play with extraordinary effort and working hard but the Dutch were just to much last night as they snapped our three game winning streak 41-18. The girls played tough defense and were aggressive on offense but struggled with their rebounding.  Jillian Jennings led the way with 8 points. Maddie Haines had 3 points. Emily Simon, Kaylee Johnson and MaKenna Schaffner added 2 points a piece. Abby Braundmeier rounded out the scoring with 1 point. The A team finished with a 5-6 record.

The B and C teams both worked hard and played with great effort and the B team won 18-13 but the C team lost 25-8. The girls fought the entire game and were aggressive on both sides of the ball which led to better results than the first time we played Pella earlier this season. The B team was led by Lindy Slocum with 8 points. Paiven Knoot had 2 points. Abby Braundmeier, Alexis Sidebottom and Jazmin Chavez rounded out the scoring with 2 points a piece. Report Highlights Confusion On Private Medicaid Oversight

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A report that makes recommendations on how Iowa should handle its Medicaid program under private care also highlights confusion over how recipients will be able to voice complaints.
Deanna Clingan-Fischer is state long-term care ombudsman, a position designed to help respond to complaints from people who receive long-term care in Iowa. Clingan-Fischer spoke to lawmakers Wednesday about a report released in December that recommends an independent system for overseeing such complaints from Medicaid recipients.
Iowa is scheduled to turn over its $4.2 billion Medicaid program to three private companies on March 1st. The report makes recommendations like adding representatives who assist Medicaid recipients with challenges to claims or service.
Lawmakers in the Senate Human Resources Committee expressed concern that such an independent system won’t be in place by March 1.

Carly Fiorina Visits Oskaloosa

Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina visited Oskaloosa Wednesday at noon. She spoke to around 70 people in Smokey Row Coffee Shop about a range of topics, including the EPA, the government, and technology.

Fiorina told a story about going on a combine ride with a soybean farmer last August. She commented on the technology in farm equipment now, and said she asked the farmer about the waterways on the combine’s monitor. She went on to say that the EPA owns 97{99cd714f394079a7f0ed2eb1518dd31342ff3ceb5b6c267c3ad8acd5b5a7d66b} of the water in the state of Iowa, which isn’t right.

“I tell you what, I trust that soybean farmer and his combine a whole lot more to manage that grass, and protect his family, and protect his community, and protect his crops than some nameless, faceless bureaucrat in Washington, DC,” Fiorina said.

Fiorina said that the government has gotten too large, and power has been taken away from the people.

“This was intended to be a citizen government. We the people. It is not ‘we the people’ anymore. The truth is, power has been taken away from the citizens of this nation and concentrated into the hands of government bureaucrats and professional politicians,” stated Fiorina.

She went on to remind those in attendance about how the people have power. She spoke about the Veterans Affairs Scandal, and how Americans became so outraged, the citizens pressured the government to pass a bill which said the top executives in the VA could be fired.

“We flooded Congress with Tweets, posts, emails, and phone calls. In other words, we citizens of this nation exerted power and pressure on the politicians in Washington, DC, and guess what? Because of all the power and pressure, this do-nothing Congress did something. In fact, in three short weeks, they passed a bill,” said Fiorina.

On the topic of technology, Fiorina said that America needs a president that understands it.

“It’s a very powerful tool, but guess what folks, it’s also a weapon. It is a weapon being wielded against us by our enemies, and right now we are losing that war in cyberspace, so we got to have a president who understands that, and understands what to do about it,” stated Fiorina.

Oskaloosa was stop two of five for Fiorina on Tuesday. The campaign leads up to the Iowa Caucuses on February 1st.

MRN’s Barney Hall Passes Away

STATEMENT FROM DAVID HYATT

MOTOR RACING NETWORK PRESIDENT

“It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that Motor Racing Network must today convey the passing of our friend and colleague, long-time MRN anchor Barney Hall.  For many of us in the racing and broadcasting industries, Barney was more than just ‘The Voice’ who brought us the NASCAR action each week on the radio.  He was an inspiration, a teacher and mostly, a friend.  Barney was a consummate professional whose style and honesty made him one of the most revered voices of the sport and perhaps the most trusted reporter of his day.

“In a world that can have its share of egos, Barney’s humor and humility kept everyone around him firmly grounded.  His smooth and easygoing delivery was the mark by which others were measured.  His co-anchor, Joe Moore, once commented that ‘Barney was the calming force in the midst of a raging storm and simply by listening to him, you knew there was safe passage through it.’  Barney Hall was the true voice of NASCAR and although his own voice has gone silent, his presence will live on in the many current motor sports broadcasters who learned at the knee of such a great storyteller.”

CONCORD, N.C. (January 26, 2016) – Hall of Fame broadcaster Barney Hall, a cornerstone of MRN’s NASCAR coverage since the network’s founding in 1970, died Tuesday from complications following a recent medical procedure.  He was 83.

At the time of his death, Hall was in the company of long-time companion Karen Carrier – the love of his life.

Hall was born on June 24, 1932, in Elkin, N.C., the town he called home his entire life.  After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy and served four years of active duty, during which Hall launched his radio career.  He would return to his hometown and work as a disc jockey at radio station WIFM for 13 years.

Hall was widely known for his calm voice and unmatched storytelling.  He was part of MRN’s award-winning race coverage since the network’s debut in 1970.  Prior to that, Hall served as Bristol Motor Speedway’s first public address announcer, called his first Daytona 500 in 1960 and missed only four broadcasts in the 57-year history of “The Great American Race.”

One of those was the “500” won by Matt Kenseth in 2012, when illness sidelined Hall.  But as NASCAR returned to Martinsville Speedway one month later, fans once again heard a comforting, familiar voice over the airwaves.

Barney was back in the booth.

Hall remained an integral part of the network’s NASCAR coverage throughout the next two years.  On July 6, 2014, he worked his final race – calling Aric Almirola’s rain-shortened victory at Daytona International Speedway, which returned the iconic No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports entry to Victory Lane.

Hall’s voice was heard on a number of special broadcasts in the months that followed. The National Motorsports Press Association named Hall its Broadcaster of the Year in 2014.  He and MRN producer Darrell Smith teamed up to win another NMPA award in 2015. Barney was inducted into that organization’s Hall of Fame in 2007.

In May 2012, NASCAR and the NASCAR Hall of Fame jointly announced the creation of a new award to honor the media’s contributions to the success of the sport.  It carried the names of two legendary MRN broadcasters: Barney Hall and Ken Squier, who were also the first recipients.

Hall was recently recognized by the Motor Racing Network with an appreciation award for his 45 years of service.

Mr. Hall is survived by Karen Carrier, the love of his life for 35 years, an aunt and several cousins.

The Motor Racing Network family wishes Barney Hall Godspeed.
