OSKALOOSA SUMMER SPORTS REMAIN UNDEFEATED

Oskaloosa Summer Sports Remain Undefeated

The Oskaloosa softball team was back in action last night and kept on rolling in a 10-3 win over Centerville in a game you heard on the Mahaska Zone Network.

The Indians scored in every inning except the fifth and hit three home runs. Senior Bethany Rowley cleared the left field fence in the first inning for a two-run shot that got Oskaloosa on the scoreboard. Kylee Silliman hit a two-run inside-the-park home run that hit the 210-foot sign in straight away centerfield. And sophomore Alexis Westercamp got her first homer of the year, launching her own two-run bomb in the sixth. Westercamp and Silliman led the team with three RBIs in the game.

While the offense kept up its amazing pace, the defense finally showed a couple flaws, as the Indians committed their first three errors of the season in the win. Centerville also plated the first three runs against Oskaloosa this year. Only one of the runs was earned. Coach Jay Harms was very pleased with how his team responded to the adversity, as they were only ahead 4-3 in the fourth inning before rallying for three runs in the bottom of the fourth and the sixth to get the win.

The softball team starts the Little Hawkeye Conference schedule tonight, as they host Pella Christian in a single varsity game. Pella Christian lost 11-10 in the regional final last year in Class 2A, and is looking to keep up their good start, as they are 7-0. Game time is slated for 7:30 PM.
The Oskaloosa baseball team got two big wins on the road against Albia, winning by scores of 12-2 and 9-1 in their make-up doubleheader. The Indians are 3-0 this year and are looking to keep that up when they face Little Hawkeye Conference opponent Pella Christian in a doubleheader tonight, which can be heard on 99.5 FM and AM 740 KMZN and on kboeradio.com starting with the pregame around 5:15 PM this evening.
