The Montezuma Bravettes run-ruled the Keota Eagles 13-0 despite being short-handed in the Game of the Week Monday night.
Youth was on display as the Bravettes (3-3) were missing a few key seniors because of other conflicts, and Keota (0-7) is a young program that features only two upper-classmen.
But, an important senior that was able to play in the game was Hanna Jones. Jones (4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 10 K) threw a gem and kept the Eagles from putting any runs on the board all night.
The Bravette offense would do its part, bringing in 6 in the first inning, three from a Paige Robinson bases-clearing double.
Montezuma would score just one run in the 2nd inning but come back with another six-spot in the 3rd, entering the 4th inning with a 13-0 lead. With the Bravettes leading by at least 12 runs, the run-rule was put into effect after the top of the fourth inning.
Keota made a couple promising plays in the game including a nice defensive play from 3rd to 1st to end the 3rd inning, and their pitcher Mikayla Beatty pitching her way out of a jam in the 2nd.
Montezuma head coach Jeremy Van Zee said in the postgame interview that he was proud of the effort his team put in in the game, and he was happy the offense played so well.
Van Zee also said his team was focused on improving on the offensive end as they get into the heart of conference play.
