On Saturday, June 27, at approximately 2:02 a.m., Ottumwa Police Officers were dispatched to the 300 Block of East Main on a report of people fighting. When officers arrived, it was determined that an unknown person had discharged a firearm during the altercation.

Following an investigation, officers were able to arrest Claudy Jacques, age 46, of 442 N. Jefferson, Apartment 2, Ottumwa. Jacques was charged with Discharging Weapons, a Simple Misdemeanor. The investigation revealed that Jacques discharged his firearm, for which he had a valid permit to carry, into the air and not directly at someone.

Officers utilized video from the downtown camera system and from local businesses in the area to assist with the investigation.
