A truck plowed into a crowd of protesters outside of a Flint, Michigan restaurant. The rally was set up to protest in favor of the right to form unions.  It happened Tuesday just after 7 a.m. near a McDonald’s. Several people were hurt, but an exact number and severity of injuries was not immediately available.

According the Associated Press, Police Chief Tim Johnson said he doesn’t believe the crash was intentional and that the driver “seemed pretty shaken up.” Johnson initially said four or five people had non-life-threatening injuries, but later said eight were hospitalized.  According to Gray TV affiliate WJRT, police reported that they were all awake and talking in the ambulances.

The pickup was later hit by a utility truck.  It was dark at the time of the crash.WJRT photographer Tony Zyber, who was on scene when the crash happened, said the march turned into pandemonium afterward.The AP reported that Johnson said those who were struck were at the end of a group of protesters walking along a street. He says the driver “acted like he didn’t see them.”
