Two people are dead after a fiery crash in southern Iowa Saturday night

Two people died in a crash in Donnellson — about an hour and 20 minutes southeast of Ottumwa, just before midnight on Saturday.  The driver of a 2004 Ford Expedition was headed west on Highway 2 near 248th Avenue at about 11:50 p.m. Saturday when the Expedition crossed the center line on the highway, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.  The vehicle struck a 2010 Chevy Malibu driven by 47-year-old Vincent M. Seaver, of Hamilton, Illinois, who was headed east. Both vehicles came to rest on the south shoulder of the highway and became fully engulfed in fire, according to the report.  Seaver and the driver of the Ford Expedition — whose name is being withheld pending family notification — died.  The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Donnellson fire and police departments, according to the report.
