MAHASKA COUNTY EMA/911 BOARD MET LAST THURSDAY NIGHT

Mahaska County EMA/911 Board met last Thursday night

The Mahaska County EMA/911 Board met for almost three hours Thursday night with much discussion and no action taken on a new radio communications system.  At a special meeting earlier this week, the County Board of Supervisors invited Raycom of Marshalltown to make a bid for the system.  Supervisors say they did this because they only had one bid.  That led to back and forth discussion between EMA/911 board members and County Board Member Mark Groenendyk about the County Board taking the lead on the project.  During the meeting, there was also a performance review of EMA/911 Administrator Jamey Robinson in open session.  During this week’s County Board meeting, Groenendyk suggested Robinson withheld information from Motorola, specifically a letter from Motorola saying they weren’t planning to bid on the radio system.  Robinson was strongly defended Thursday by Mahaska County Sheriff Russell Van Renterghem, New Sharon Mayor Dustin Hite and a dispatcher who spoke during public comments. The EMA/911 Board voted to approve Robinson’s performance….with Groenendyk abstaining.
