Area high school volleyball playoff results

The Iowa high school volleyball playoffs got under way Tuesday night.  In Class 1A Region 7, North Mahaska opened with a sweep of BGM in New Sharon.  The scores were 25-12, 25-13 and 25-20.  North Mahaska Coach Alicia Arkema talked about the win.

“We came out strong, being aggressive in all aspects, serving, hitting  and getting them off their game and getting some easy balls to come over.  I think we accomplished that.  We set out a game plan and they executed well.”

Emma Terpstra and Madi McKay had eight kills apiece for North Mahaska.  The Warhawks are now 12-16 on the year.  They’ll play at Montezuma Monday night in the next round of the region playoffs.  BGM ends the year with a 2-23 record.

Other games in 1A Region 7 last night, Lynnville-Sully swept Melcher-Dallas 3-0, Winfield-Mount Union beat Sigourney 3-0 and Iowa Mennonite defeated Tri-County 3-0.  In 1A Region 8, Moravia eliminated Twin Cedars 3-0.   In Class 2A Region 5, Cardinal defeated Pekin 3-1; Cardinal plays at Pella Christian in the next round on Monday.

Tonight in Class 3A, EBF hosts PCM in a Region 6 matchup, while in Region 7, Albia plays at Davis County.
