WILLIAM PENN SPORTS UPDATE

William Penn sports update

William Penn’s football team made its final home game of the season one to remember Saturday (11/3) as the Statesmen routed Graceland 61-14 at Statesmen Community Stadium.  William Penn’s offense had a season high 544 yards rushing….with fullback Amos Johnson running for 120 yards and three first half touchdowns. Fellow fullback Ben Sherman ran for 118 yards and a touchdown as the Statesmen roared to a 41-0 halftime lead.  William Penn’s defense came up with three sacks, three interceptions and a fumble recovery.  All of which made Statesmen Coach Todd Hafner quite happy following the game.

“I’m proud of our guys.  The things we’ve talked about that we needed to do, our guys did today.  We’ve been looking for that a little bit from this team and they really did a good job today.   And I”m going to talk about how proud I am for our seniors. They’ve given us so much and our young kids today came out and really laid it on the line for them and it’s just a great day for them.”

The Statesmen are now 4-6 on the season and 2-2 in the Heart of America Conference North Division.  They wrap up the season Saturday (11/10) at Grand View.

The season is over for William Penn’s men’s soccer team.  The Statesmen lost at Baker 4-1 Saturday (11/3) in the Heart of America Conference tournament quarterfinals.  Freshman Kenedy Deviska had the only Statesmen goal. William Penn’s men end the season 14-5…setting school records for most wins in a season, consecutive wins with 7, and shutouts with 9, as well as tying the school record for fewest goals allowed in a season with 19.

Both of William Penn’s basketball teams are 3-0 on the season.  The Statesmen men threw the book at Emmaus Bible Saturday (11/3) 141-54.  The point total and 87 point victory margin are second most in school history.  Guard Abrian Edwards had a triple double for William Penn: ten points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists.  Senior Marlon Alcindor had 25 points to lead the Statesmen scoring.   The Penn men are off until Saturday (11/10) when they host William Woods.

As for the Statesmen women, they won both games at the Grand View Classic in Des Moines over the weekend: 88-37 over Missouri Baptist on Friday and 62-58 over 20th ranked Lyon on Saturday.  The Statesmen women are off until November 14, when they open their Heart of America Conference season at Culver-Stockton.
