OSKALOOSA SKATEBOARD COMPETITION

Oskaloosa Skateboard Competition

Oskaloosa Urban Park hosted their first ever skateboard competition on Saturday August 1st. Oskaloosa history was made when Bryce Plumb (1st place winner in the 12U category) was the first skater ever to perform a competitive run in a skateboard competition at the Oskaloosa Urban Park!

MCRF, together  with youth skaters & parent committee and with the support of Penn Central Mall planned the recreational competition which included three age groups. The winners of the competition were: category 12U  1st place Bryce Plumb; 2nd place Sean White; 3rd place Taykoa Millan and honorary mention Haven While. Category 13-17: 1st place Dawson Darland; 2nd place Mirza Jasarovic; 3rd place James Rush. Category 18 & Up: 1st place Shane Jenkins; 2nd place John Paul and 3rd place, Spencer Wiseman. You could feel the energy in the air with the 21 contestants and near 100 spectators. Eduskate, a skate shop and skater team from Cedar Rapids traveled to Oskaloosa to judge the competition inspiring a positive atmosphere throughout the event. Nate Sherwood, a retired professional skater and owner of Eduskate, said during his announcing that skating was a great sport that taught him a lot about work ethic and dedication. He continued to give positive feedback and encouragement to each participant throughout the competition stating that he wanted to ‘motiskate” the skaters in the sport!

Vendors on site included Patriot Catering, InVivo Skate Equipment  and Sno Biz. Drinks, provided by Mahaska and HyVee, were free to those present.  “This was a great first  event to build on for future competitions” noted one committee member of the competition. Thanks to sponsors MCRF, Penn Central Mall, HyVee, Eduskate, Mahaska, and InVivo,  the competition opened the door to skateboard, BMX and scooter competitions in the future.
