Highway 6 in Walcott reopens after person shoots self during traffic stop

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office confirms one person is dead from a self-inflicted gun shot wound after a traffic stop. This happened at approximately 12:21 a.m. near the intersection of 200th Street and 60th Avenue. Officials say it happened during the traffic stop near 60th Ave. on Highway 6 late Tuesday evening.

Highway 6 was shut down for about one mile while the scene was investigated. It has since reopened.

The name of the victim has not been released. The Sheriff’s Office says a press release will be issued sometime Wednesday morning. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office and Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing their investigation at this point.
