One person was killed in an accident Wednesday night

A North Dakota woman was killed Wednesday night (12/19) when she was driving the wrong way on Highway 163 south of Pella.  The Iowa State Patrol says 65-year-old Esther Hockett of Bowman, North Dakota, was going east in the westbound lane of Highway 163 shortly before 7:30pm.  Hockett’s SUV hit a semi that was carrying cattle head-on.  The SUV flipped onto its side and came to rest on the highway. Hockett was thrown from her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.  Highway 163 was closed for several hours Wednesday night into Thursday morning as law enforcement cleared the scene.  Seven cattle were killed in the crash; others were able to get out of the semi and had to be rounded up.
