The Statesmen men’s bowling team has the talent to again be a national contender as the 2015-2016 season is just around the corner.

Led by Head Coach Mark Van Wyk (assisted by Breanne Underwood), the Statesmen have all-Midwest Collegiate Conference performers Jacques Kaune (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska, Business Management) and Stian Hoff (Jr., Orkanger, Norway, General Accounting) back on the lanes to pace this year’s squad. Kaune had WPU’s top 2014-2015 average at 201.0, while Hoff was next at 194.1.

Fellow returning letterwinners Michael Applegate (Sr., Council Bluffs, Iowa, Secondary Education), Ryan Howard (Jr., King, N.C., Information Technology), Lucas Perdieu (Jr., DeWitt, Iowa, Public Accounting), and Travis Scott (Sr., West Saint Paul, Minn., Physical Education) will also bolster the crew. Scott’s 186.7 average is the best among the quartet, while Applegate (184.4), Howard (182.6), and Perdieu (181.5) were all in the 180’s as well. Perdieu won the team’s only individual title as he topped the standings at the MCC Championships.

Cody Adair (Jr., Kearns, Utah, Undecided) (180.9), Connor Frederick (Sr., Ottumwa, Iowa, History/Government) (190.0), Kyle Reese (Jr., Dolton, Ill., Human Services) (164.4), Cory Rissman (Sr., Yorkville, Ill., Industrial Technology) (177.3), and Kevin Wesely (Sr., Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Industrial Technology) (168.1) have also enjoyed success at the junior varsity level and will try to move up the ranks this year.

Quincy Bruce (So., Cedar Rapids, Iowa) (199.3) and Rylie Reidel (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) also competed last season, while Jason Forsyth (Fr., Weatherford, Texas), Curtis Majka (So., Elgin, Ill.), and Ryan Racimo (Jr. Olympia, Wash.) look to improve this campaign.

The coaching staff also found new talent to add into the mix with Nick Walker (Fr., Zeeland, Mich., Business Management) at the top of the sheet. Michael Briggs (Fr., Clearfield, Iowa), Braxton Coble (Fr., Ottumwa, Iowa), Christopher Goar (Fr., Whittier, Calif., History/Government), Ahmad Martin (Fr., Winston-Salem, N.C., Undecided), Logan Mason (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management), Tanner Peeler (Fr., Des Moines, Iowa, Industrial Technology), and Jacob Steele (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa) are also new to the navy and gold.

Schedule

William Penn opens its 10-tournament season this weekend at the Storm Western Shootout in Indianapolis, Ind. Highlighting the season is the team’s holiday trip to Las Vegas, Nev., while the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic will conclude the regular season on February 20-21.
