William Penn Men’s Golf Finishes Third

The Statesmen men’s golf team put together two more solid rounds in preparation for the league tourney as it competed at the Central Methodist Open Monday and Tuesday.

William Penn finished third out of 12 teams with a two-day tally of 615 (312-303) at the par-71 Hail Ridge Golf Course. In a field filled with six future Heart of America Athletic Conference squads, Culver-Stockton (Mo.) won the title at 595 (300-295).

Brock Derrick of Evangel (Mo.) was the individual medalist at three-over 145 (73-72).

Gareth Sargent was the top Statesmen linkster, tying for eighth out of 70 players with a score of 150 (77-73).

Tyler Lallier and Clay Tucker were second on the varsity squad in a tie for 20th at 155. Lallier posted scores of 78-77, while Tucker had an 82 followed by a 73.

A 157 (77-80) put Frederik Lundsgaard in a tie for 29th, while Spencer Skipper was 46th overall at 162 (80-82).

WPU’s JV team competed as well, finishing seventh at 620 (314-306) with Byron Lindeque tying for 11th at 151 (76-75). Justin Bothma matched Lallier and Tucker at 155 (79-76), while Jeremy Swink ended the event at 158 (82-76) to tie for 32nd.

Jeremy White (T-38th, 77-82–159) and Ben Roberts (T-55th, 89-79–168) were also in the mix at the Open.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Riverside next Tuesday and Wednesday to compete in the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships. Play will be contested at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course.
