CO-ED STATE TRACK AND FIELD CONTINUES TODAY IN DES MOINES

Co-Ed State Track and Field Continues Today In Des Moines

The Co-Ed State Track and Field Meet is continuing today at Drake Stadium in Des Moines and several area athletes are in action.

In the girls’ Class 2A discus, Davis County’s Kate Birchmier finished in second place.

In the boys’ Class 3A long jump, Knoxville’s Tanner Dunkin finished in second place. Centerville’s Graydon Schmidt finished in 9th.

In the girls’ Class 2A distance medley relay, Davis County finished with the silver less than a second behind Monticello.

In the girls’ Class 2A 100 meter hurdles prelims, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont’s Karlie Taylor qualified in 5th and Davis County’s Hayleigh Sharp qualified in 8th. In the Class 3A 100 meter hurdles prelims for the girls, Pella’s Lydia VanEe qualified 6th and Corin McKinstrey qualified in 8th.

In the boys’ Class 2A 4×200 meter relay, Albia’s team of Blake Bayer, Hunter Weldon, Luke Sarver, and Tony Leshen finished in second less than a second behind West Burlington-Notre Dame. Both teams beat the previous state record. In the girls’ Class 2A 4×200 meter relay, Pella Christian’s team of Kathryn Van Tuyl, Morgan Anderson, Christa Veenstra, and Sarah Meyer finished in 6th. In Class 3A’s 4×200 relay for the girls, Pella’s team of Emily Vos, Makenna Bogaard, Mackenzie Gustafson, and Annika Pingel took fourth. Grinnell’s team finished in 9th.

In the Class 2A boys’ 400 meter hurdles, Jacob Clouse of Albia finished in 8th. In the Class 3A boys’ 400 meter hurdles, Oskaloosa’s Austin Reed finished in 15th.
