PIERSON PROMOTED TO HEAD WOMEN’S GOLF COACH

Pierson Promoted to Head Women’s Golf Coach

Oskaloosa–William Penn University Athletics Director Nik Rule is proud to announce that Chris Pierson has been hired as Head Women’s Golf Coach.

Pierson replaces Rule who was recently hired as William Penn’s Athletics Director.  He advances within the program, after serving as Associate Head Coach the past two seasons.

“Chris and his staff have spent several years within the women’s golf program already,” Rule said.  “They know what it takes to succeed at this level, they know our current players, and they are prepared to continue to lead the team to success on and off the course.”

During his Associate tenure, he helped guide the Statesmen to a pair of Heart of America Athletic Conference titles and two NAIA National Championship appearances, finishing 19th and 18th.  He coached 16 all-Heart players, two Heart Players of the Year, and one NAIA Second-Team All-American.

“I want to thank Coach Rule for giving me this great opportunity to take over a tremendous program!” Pierson said.  “This program has had a lot of success in the past and we plan to continue that success moving forward.  I also want to thank William Penn University for all their great support of athletics.”

Pierson has had coaching experience off the course as well, having been the Head Junior Varsity Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach for the William Penn men’s basketball program from 2012 to 2017.  He served in the same capacity at Central College from 2007-2009 and again from 2011-2012.

“Chris is very knowledgeable and has experience in managing collegiate teams,” Rule said.  “We have every confidence in his abilities and know he is the right fit to lead the program into the future.”

A 2007 graduate of William Penn with a degree in Physical Education, Pierson was a three-year member of the golf team.  He was named team captain of the 2006-2007 squad and earned academic all-conference and NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition as a senior as well.

Pierson will be stepping down from his post within the men’s basketball program.  Dylan Detweiler also earns a promotion with Pierson’s hiring.  Detweiler will now be the Associate Head Coach for the women’s golf program.

Pierson also works at Musco Sports Lighting as a Parts and Service Coordinator.  He and his wife Kelly live in Oskaloosa with their son Tegan and daughters Everly and Bexley.
