Big Labor Day Weekend Plans For Holley Iron Man Series

No appetizers needed for this weekend’s entreé as the Holley Iron Man Series dishes up a hearty helping of racing excitement with four shows in five days.

The Labor Day Weekend will kick off Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the historic Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa. The USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods are on tap night along with the USMTS Modifieds as they continue their Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental.

Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 7 and racing starts at 7:15. Adults 16 and older are $18, youth ages 6-15 are $5 and children 5 and under get in for free. Pit passes are $35. Fans can get coupons good for $2 off adult admission at Casey’s General Stores locations in Dayton, Dows, Eagle Grove, Fort Dodge, Iowa Falls, Jewell and Webster City.

The Hamilton County Speedway is a 1/2-mile semi-banked dirt oval located off of US 20 at exit 140, then 1.2 miles north, then 0.5 mile east on Bank St., then 0.4 mile south on Bluff St. For more information call (515) 832-1443 or check out www.hamiltoncospeedway.com online.

Then on Thursday, the Holley Man Series moves north into the Land of 10,000 Lakes to Fairmont, Minn., and the Fairmont Raceway. USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods will again split curtain time with the USMTS Modifieds.

The USRA Stock Cars will take a couple of nights off while the USRA B-Mods pick up the pace on Saturday at the Deer Creek Speedway on Saturday night along with the USMTS Modifieds and three other supporting classes. Adults are $20 and kids ages 12 and under are $5. Pit passes are $30. Fans can get coupons good for $2 off adult general admission at Casey’s General Stores locations in Preston, Rochester, Stewartville and Lime Springs in Iowa.

The week of events will conclude at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa, on Sunday. This time, both the USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods will be back in action along with the USMTS Modifieds, plus the USRA Hobby Stocks. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.

Tickets are $17 for adults 18 years old and up, $10 for youth ages 13-17 and admission is free for children 12 years of age and under. Pit passes are $30 per person. Fans can get coupons good for $2 off adult general admission at Casey’s General Stores locations in Cresco, Decorah, Lime Springs, Ossian, New Hampton and Waukon.

Heading into this week Tom Schmitt of Independence, Iowa, holds the edge over Steve Jackson of Polk City, Iowa in the Holley iron Man Series USRA Stock Cars, followed by Decorah, Iowa’s Mitch Hovden, USMTS boss Todd Staley of Webster City and Jake Newman of Smithville, Mo. Schmitt-the 2007 and 2008 USRA Stock Car National Champion-has two main event wins this season, as does Jackson. Hovden, who has two USRA national titles himself, leads the way with four victories tallied while Elijah Zevenbergen has three in three starts.

Foster has one win in the series while Andy Bryant, Dan Hovden and two-time Holley Iron Man Series champ Cory Crapser each have two. Mike Striegel, Nick Barger, Kyle Anderson, Tyler Johnson, Ethan Isaacs, Brad Smith, Luke Nieman and Kris Jackson each have one victory under their belts.
