Mahaska County Judge Annette Scieszinski handed down the sentence today for Jessica Dawn Strasser, who has been convicted of theft in the first degree. After several continuance rulings, today Strasser was sentenced to no more than ten years in a correctional facility and a $1,000 fine.

Strasser, 43, was convicted of embezzling $279,344.58 from the Mahaska County Soil and Water Conservation District from 2006 through 2013. Strasser was charged in October of 2014.

Strasser will begin to serve her sentence at the Iowa Correctional Facility for Women, located in Mitchellville. It is not yet known if there is an appeal planned. There is still $265,854.24 left to pay in restitution.
