City Council 8/3/15

An update on the Branding Action Plan highlighted the regularly scheduled meeting of the Oskaloosa City Council Monday evening.

The meeting began with the community comments. Karen Hafner of Main Street Oskaloosa spoke first, and thanked the city and the community businesses for their support and stated that the goal of the branding plan is to create new history for Oskaloosa, and not change it.

Andrew Jensen reiterated that sentiment, and said that six of the eight priority issues of the project have been covered. Several others within the branding committee spoke, all with support for the project and thanking the city for their efforts to keep it moving along.
Following the comments, the consent agenda was passed. Among these items was the approval to pay $107,667.21 to Cornerstone Excavating Inc. for the 3rd Avenue East Reconstruction Project.

Prior to the regular agenda, Mayor David Krutzfeldt announced one vacancy on the Building Code Board of Appeals and one vacancy on the Historic Preservation Committee.

The regular agenda was highlighted by a filing of the community’s Branding, Development, and Marketing Action Plan. Council member Jason Van Zetten commented that everyone is working to make the city better, and he, along with the rest of the council, unanimously passed the filing of the plans. The community branding and marketing will continue to take place over the next several months.

Also in the agenda was the approval of the renovation and expansion of the fire station. This action approves the plans, specifications, renovation, and expansion of the new fire station that is officially going to break ground in the coming weeks.

Along with some bookkeeping issues that were voted on by the council, there were some reports towards the end of the meeting.

The Mahaska County Recreation Fund was also applauded for the outstanding turnout at their first skate competition at the Oskaloosa Urban Park over the weekend.

The next scheduled meeting of the Oskaloosa City Council is set for Monday, August 17th at the council chambers in City Hall. The meeting will be called to order at 6 PM.
