March 27

Oskaloosa High School's Night of Jazz will be held Friday, March 27th at the George Daily Auditorium. This Year's performance will feature six local jazz bands: William Penn University Jazz Band, North Mahaska Jazz, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Jazz, Oskaloosa Middle School Jazz, Oskaloosa Jazz Lab, and Oskaloosa Jazz Ensemble. The performance will begin at 7:00 pm. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. For more information, contact Rich Waddington at the Oskaloosa High School.

Branson on the Road opens on Saturday, March 28th at 2 pm at the Pella Opera House. The Oskaloosa Girl Scouts will sponsor a dessert auction on Saturday, March 28th in center court of Penn Central Mall. The auction begins at noon, and will continue until all desserts have been sold. Individuals and businesses wishing to donate desserts to Girl Scouts for the event should bring those items to the mall's center court beginning at 11 am on the day of the event.

Leighton Lions Spring Pancake Breakfast will be held Saturday, March 28th from 6:30 to 9 am. Serving all you can eat pancakes, with sausage and eggs at the Christian Reformed Church in Leighton. Proceeds are for Keith Beintema who is recovering from Cancer.

You're invited to the Dare Ya' Expo at Penn Central Mall March 29th from noon to 4 pm. The event will include a variety of interactive stations to re-introduce clubs, events, activities that happen in your own back yard. You can walk the recreation trail on a mock trail, have your picture taken in a photo booth, throw a disc golf disc, win a tree to take home and much more!

An Easter Egg Hunt and Fun Day will be held Sunday, March 29th from 2 to 4 pm at the Bridgeview Center in Ottumwa... The event is for ages up to 12 years, with Barnyard Billy, goodies for all, and 6 bikes will be given away... Admission is one non-perishable food item for the Food Bank.

Holy Week worship schedule this week at St. James Episcopal Church, at 207 South 3rd Street in Oskaloosa is as follows: Holy Communion will be held Palm Sunday, March 29th at 9 am, Maundy Thursday, April 2nd at 5:30 pm, and Easter Sunday, April 5th... There will be no communion on Good Friday, April 3rd.

 

March 30

The Mahaska Community Development Group (MCDG) and YMCA will host a public input meeting at 9 am, 11:30 am, and 6 pm, Monday, March 30, in Penn Central Mall in the suite across from Label Shopper. The two-hour session will be aimed at defining what key indoor recreation and child care facilities and programs need to be maintained, revamped, and/or developed to serve the community. 

 

April 3

The YES singles will have a "bring your own meal" supper on Friday, April 3rd, at 6 pm...  Individuals will also need to bring their own nonalcoholic drink as well. The Freedom from Smoking Class will be offered for seven weeks with class meeting every Tuesday, beginning April 7, through May 19, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the board room on level2 of the MHP campus in Oskaloosa, best accessed through entrance #2. Oskaloosa Women's Connection invites you to their annual "Guest Night". Join them for dinner on Monday, April 13th at 6:30 p.m. at the Peppertree in Oskaloosa. Indian Hills Community College Scholarship Auction will be held April 25th with new merchandise, gift certificates, vehicles, computer equipment, furniture and much more... Step into the past-Step into the future- at Times of Future Past, Saturday May 16, and Sunday May 17, 10 am to 5 pm, at Sleepy Hollow Sports Park, 4051 Dean Ave. in Des Moines. Enjoy comedy and music, learn to dance the Waltz, Two-Step, even the Highland Fling! Attend how-to seminars on costuming, theatrical make-up and prop building, and come as your favorite character and enter the daily costume contest! Admission is $12 for Adults, $6 for children 5-12, and FREE for children under 5.

The North Mahaska Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, May 23rd at North Mahaska High School cafeteria/gymnasium at 4 pm.

 

May 30

The Mahaska County Agency on Aging is sponsoring the First Annual Floyd White Memorial Golf tournament Saturday, May 30th, at  Edmundson Golf Course. It will be a 4-Person Best Position format, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $50 per person, and registration is limited to 34 teams of four players. All proceeds from the tournament will go to the MCAA to continue its mission to serve senior citizens. To register, call Matt Sherlock at 641-673-5120. First Thursday Evening of Each Month:
The Safe Place Suicide Support Group will meet on the first Thursday evening of each month at the Celebrate Church, 1005 N Lincoln in Knoxville. Meetings run from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
