The First Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa will host a Soup Supper this Thursday, December 5th at 405- High Ave East. Dinner will be held prior to the Oskaloosa Lighted Christmas Parade from 5-7 and you can choose from Potato Soup, Chicken and Noodle, Chili or Ham and Beans. Meals are $6 for a large bowl of soup or $3 for a small. Each meal comes with veggies, cornbread or rolls, a piece of pie or bar and a drink.
Heartland Pregnancy Center of Ottumwa will be hosting a Christmas Open House fundraiser on Friday December 6 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the home of Ken and Peggy Curtis, 2731 North Court Street in Ottumwa. Tickets are $10 per person. Guests will tour a lovely home decorated for the holidays and enjoy coffee and desserts.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will hold its Eighth Annual Christmas Bazaar and Cookie Walk on Saturday December 7 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Knoxville. Coffee and freshly made donuts will be available. Crafts, antiques, baked goods, and other items will be for sale. Lunch will be served for $5 per person. Proceeds will go to the hungry in the Knoxville community.

Oskaloosa Optimist Club will be sponsoring the Optimist International Essay Contest for students in grades six through twelve attending Oskaloosa High School, Oskaloosa Middle School, and Oskaloosa Christian School. The topic of this year's essay is "How Dreams Lead to Success." A panel of three judges will score each essay. Students with the top essays at both the middle school and high school will receive fifty dollars. The second place essays at both levels will receive twenty-five dollars. The over all winning essay will be submitted to the Optimist District Level Contest for a chance tow in a $2,500 scholarship. Essays and contest forms should be submitted to Sharma Parlett at 407 South 3rd Street, Oskaloosa by January 14, 2014.
