Details Released In Boy’s Death

MAHASKA COUNTY— The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing many details surrounding the death of a 13-year-old boy that occurred over the weekend, but the office has sent out an updated release to shed light on what happened.

At about 7 p.m. Saturday, the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a distraught individual claiming that a male juvenile had been shot at 1593 290th St. in rural Mahaska County.

When officers from the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office and medical personnel from the Mahaska County Ambulance arrived, it was determined on the scene that there was a 13-year-old boy that had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

Officers from the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office and the county medical examiner investigated this incident, and, in a press release issued to the media, said they had determined at this time that the shooting was an accident.

The 13-year-old has been sent to the state medical examiners office for an autopsy, and no further details have been released at this time. The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office has not returned calls from the Oskaloosa Herald for comment.
