Iowa Lawmaker Resigning From The Legislature To Join Electric Cooperative

An Iowa lawmaker who heads a committee overseeing government spending says he will resign from the legislature to become a top executive for an electric cooperative.

Rep. Chuck Soderberg, a Republican from Le Mars, announced Tuesday he will resign from the Iowa House to become the executive vice president and general manager of the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives.

Soderberg was elected to the House in 2004. He became chairman of the chamber’s Appropriations Committee in 2013.

House Speaker-select Linda Upmeyer, a Republican from Clear Lake, says she will choose a new committee chair before the start of the next legislative session.

The association says on its website that it lobbies state and federal lawmakers on behalf of its member cooperatives and provides safety and educational programs.
