LOCAL COUNTY BOARD ELECTION RESULTS

Local County Board election results

There will be one new supervisor on the Mahaska County Board.  Incumbent Republican Steve Wanders and Republican Steve Parker were elected Tuesday (11/6) over Democrat Paul DeGeest and Scott Van Veldhuizen, who was nominated by petition.  Wanders talks about his priorities for the future.  “Going forward….I’m going to work on secondary roads and mental health.  Those are the two biggest issues…and then just keep the taxes as low as we can and keep our roads in the best shape that we can.”

Steve Parker came in second behind Wanders in Tuesday’s vote.  Parker says he wants to repair the County Board’s relationship with the City of Oskaloosa.  “I’m looking forward to just getting things going, keeping things going and patch up the differences that we can and work together. We’re split right now and it’s not good for the whole county.  We need to sit down and resolve the situation.”  Parker will replace Mahaska County Board Chairman Willy Van Weelden, who did not run for re-election.

In Keokuk County, Daryl Wood and Michael Hadley won the two seats on the County Board, defeating Roger Snakenberg.

Kisha Jahner defeated Stanley Bingham for the only contested seat on the Marion County Board.

In Powesheik County, Merle Doty and Jason Roudabush won the two seats up for grabs on the County Board, defeating two other challengers.

Brandon Talsma and Denny Carpenter won the two seats available on the Jasper County Board.

And Jerry Parker was re-elected to the Wapello County Board of Supervisors.
