New Baseball Rankings Leave Area Teams on Outside Looking In

The new Iowa High School Baseball Coaches’ Association rankings were released earlier this week and the results are very interesting.

There are no area teams actually in the top ten in any of the four classes, although there are a few that are among the “receiving votes” group.

In Class 4A, Ottumwa is among just four teams receiving votes outside of the top ten. Johnston is #1, followed by Dowling Catholic and Waukee. Little Hawkeye Conference team Indianola is #7 this week.

In Class 3A, Knoxville is the second team outside the rankings. The top three are Harlan, Davenport Assumption, and Vinton-Shellsburg.

Centerville is the second team out of the rankings in Class 2A. The Big Reds are competing in a revamped South Central Conference. New Hampton, Wilton, and Cascade of Western Dubuque are the top three.

Finally in Class 1A, Moravia remains one of the teams just outside of the top ten. Colfax-Mingo out of the South Iowa Cedar League is also among the teams just outside the rankings. Newman Catholic is #1, followed by North Linn and Martensdale-St. Marys.
