NORTH MAHASKA AND LYNNVILLE-SULLY ADVANCE IN POSTSEASON

North Mahaska and Lynnville-Sully Advance in Postseason

The North Mahaska and Lynnville-Sully baseball teams took down their foes from Twin Cedars and Montezuma in a postseason double-header in Sully on KBOE Tuesday night.

Game one saw the Warhawks taking down the Sabers from Twin Cedars in a pitcher’s duel, 1-0.

North Mahaska’s Logan Shipley was outstanding (7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K), and took a no-hit bid into the 7th inning. Twin Cedars Ben Rowley (6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 8 K) was also good, but gave up one run in the bottom of the 5th when Luke Groves hit in Korey Shepard to grab the lead for North Mahaska.

That run was enough as Shipley slammed the door on the Sabers in the 7th. With the win North Mahaska moves on to the next round of District play in Class 1A District 12.

The Warhawks next game will be in Martensdale vs the 6th ranked Martensdale St. Mary’s baseball squad on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

The next game of the evening was Lynnville-Sully taking on Montezuma.

This game saw a few more runs, and eventually see the Hawks defeat the Braves 4-3.

Lynnville-Sully took the lead first in the 3rd inning when Carson Dunsbergen was hit in by Bray Noun Harder to make it 1-0 after 3 innings. Montezuma fought back to tie it in the top of the 4th inning, adding one run themselves via Parker Johnson RBI.

The Hawks yanked back the lead with a Blaize Kuhlman 2 RBI double that brought in Skyler Jannenga and Carson Dunsbergen and it was 4-1 after 5 innings.

It was set up to be an easy win for Lynnville-Sully when they took a 3 run lead into the 7th and final inning. But, Montezuma scored 2 runs with 2 outs to make it 4-3 Hawks.

Bray Noun Harder slammed the door with Montezuma runners on first and third to secure the win for Lynnville-Sully.

With the win, the Hawks move on in the postseason. They, like the Warhawks, will play in Martensdale on Thursday.

Lynnville will take on Ankeny Christian Academy at 5 p.m. for a chance to advance to the District Final.
