OSKALOOSA BASEBALL IMPROVES TO 6-0

Oskaloosa Baseball Improves to 6-0

The Oskaloosa baseball team was in action at home against Grinnell Monday night, a game you heard on the Mahaska Zone Network. The Indians got the 6-2 win to move to 6-0 on the year and 3-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. Both Grinnell and Osky blew some opportunities early, but both coaches were weary enough that neither starting pitcher made it out of the second inning. Osky plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly from Ethan Arnold to score Mitchell Schaffner. The Indians would extend their lead to 5-0 with a four run fifth, highlighted by a two-run double by Nate VanVeldhuizen. Grinnell would plate a couple of runs late, but it would be too little, too late, as they fell to 2-4 to start the year.

The Oskaloosa boys have gotten some early season recognition for their start, as the new baseball rankings were released on Sunday from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. The Indians are one of four teams on the watch list for the Class 3A top ten. Davenport Assumption is the top team, followed by second-ranked Pella. Knoxville is ranked seventh, a team that Oskaloosa beat earlier this year. Fairfield, who knocked Osky out in the district final last year, is ranked 9th. Oskaloosa is joined by conference foes Norwalk and Dallas Center-Grimes on the 3A watch list. The boys are back in action tonight as they face off against Mount Pleasant at home in a single varsity game. First pitch scheduled for around 7:30 PM.
