Oskaloosa Boys’ Track and Field Place Second

The Oskaloosa Indians boys’ track and field team came through again in the District Track & Field meet Thursday at Pella. The team earned 2nd place, with outstanding performances coming from Skylar and Spencer DeJong in the 3200 and 1600, Austin Reed in the 400 Hurdles and 110 Hurdles, the 1600 Medley team came in seeded 4th and earned 2nd place.

The top 2 place winners from each district last night are automatically qualified for next week’s state meet, then the next fastest 8 times and marks also qualify. Earning automatic qualifying for Oskaloosa:

4 other possible events may qualify, and we hope to know by Friday afternoon if they are in. These are:
Shuttle Hurdle Relay team – Max Johnson, Bennett Spry, Tucker Nunnikhoven, Austin Reed
Bennett Spry – 400 meter
Adam Carriker – 400 meter
4×100 team: Dwayne Lipscomb, Tucker Nunnikhoven, Max Johnson, KiJana DeJong

Along with the state qualifiers, the team also had 3 season-best relays and 16 individual personal records. Head Coach Mike Sterner and the rest of the coaching staff is very excited for these results and how the kids continue to compete and improve.

Sienna DeJong of the Osky girls’ track and field team won the District Championship and automatically qualified for state in the 3000 m run. The waiting game begins for the rest of the events on the girls’ side. Top 24 qualify for the Class 3A State meet on May 21, 22, 23 at Drake Stadium.
