Oskaloosa Girls’ Regular Season Comes To An End

The Oskaloosa Girls’ Soccer team ended their regular season with a hard fought 2-1 loss at 8th ranked Pella last night. Much of the first half was dominated by Pella’s offense as they had numerous shots on goal, however Osky goal keeper Sandra Blom stood her ground denying the Dutch over and over until late in the half when Pella was able to score twice taking a 2-0 halftime advantage.

The second half was a much different story however, as an inspired Osky team came out fighting and never gave in holding the 8th ranked Dutch scoreless while creating several of their own scoring opportunities. Only one found the back of the net however when Ashley Brockman had a charge toward goal then passed the ball off at the last second to Kinsey Cook who scored the lone goal with Brockman getting the assist. Blom was credited with 12 saves.

Oskaloosa Coach Greg Walter said he was very proud of how the girls didnt fold up at halftime and just play defense but instead chose to give Pella a fight and played well as a team in the second half.

Oskaloosa ends the regular season at 7-7 and is now off until the opening round of the Class 2A Regional Tournament on Friday May 29th when they will host Ottumwa at 6pm. Oskaloosa beat Ottumwa 6-0 earlier this season.

You can hear live coverage of that game on AM 740/ 99.5 FM KMZN and kboeradio.com with Jamie Brockman and Jeff Reif. The winner will move on to face Pella in the semifinals.
