Parra Goal Not Enough In 2-1 Loss To CSM

The Statesmen women’s soccer team suffered its first setback of the fall as it lost a 2-1 non-conference matchup with Saint Mary (Neb.) Thursday.

The Statesmen (2-1) were outshot just 10-8 in the defensive battle. Camila Parra (Jr., Brisbane, Australia, Biology) accounted for two of those attempts, including the team’s lone goal.

The junior scored at the 13:51 juncture with AnnaMarie Urps (Fr., Wilton, Calif., Physical Education) assisting on the goal. Urps and Alyce Correia (Jr., Perth, Australia, Elementary Education) also recorded two shots Thursday.

Adriana Borjon (Jr., Willits, Calif., Exercise Science) made several nice saves between the pipes–five total–but could not prevent the Flames (1-0) from getting the equalizer in the 19th minute and the eventual winner in the 22nd minute.

Unfortunately, WPU could not rally in the second period as the visitors held a 7-3 edge in shots after intermission.

Next Up: William Penn remains in Oskaloosa next weekend, hosting Morningside Friday to start the William Penn Classic. Action will begin at 5 p.m.
