Meteorologists say to plan on a slow commute Thursday morning. Expect reduced visibility and slick roads as precipitation falls during the morning commute. The morning wintry mix will wrap up by mid-afternoon across much of the area.
On top of a layer of sleet and ice, most areas will wind up around 1 to 3 inches of snow with a narrow axis of 3 to 6 inches possible mainly northeast of Waterloo. The winds will gust to 40 mph causing temperatures to fall. A wind chill advisory will be issued Thursday night into Friday morning. Wind chills could drop to the -20s. Friday and Saturday are on track to be quiet. Snow returns on Sunday.
