Scholarship Program Aims to Support Local Med Students

(Ottumwa, Iowa)–The Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation recently announced that it has begun accepting applications for the Laboratory Control Ltd. Health Career Scholarship Program for the 2018-2019 school year beginning today, Feb. 1.

According to a news release sent by the foundation, nearly $350,000 has been provided in scholarship support to students in southeast Iowa since the program began in 2004. The goal of this scholarship program is to build relationships and provide support for homegrown medical students in the hopes that they will someday return to the community to practice.

Eligible applicants must reside in one of the following counties in Iowa: Appanoose, Davis, Jasper, Jefferson, Henry, Keokuk, Mahaska, Monroe, Van Buren and Wapello. Qualified applicants must also be enrolled in a state or nationally accredited program of study that focuses on an eligible health care field of study, have graduated high school by September, 2018, have at least 30 hours of college credit and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Scholarship awards are paid directly to the successful applicant’s college or university and may be used for education expenses, including tuition, books and other fees.
