Statesmen Take 2 Of 3 POW Honors

Two William Penn football players were recognized for top play last weekend as the Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its weekly Player of the Week honors Monday.

Jatavius Stewart (Sr., Rock Hill, S.C., Biology) was named Offensive POW, while Samson Tamijani (Fr., Houston, Texas, Communications) gathered Special Teams POW laurels. The award is the first for both players.

Stewart only touched the ball seven times on the offensive end in Saturday’s 51-48 triple-overtime win against MidAmerica Nazarene, but amazingly scored on four of those occasions. He crossed the endzone on runs of 13 and five yards and also scored on receptions of eight and 25 yards. The senior finished with five grabs for 117 yards and rushed twice for 18 yards.

Tamijani was perfect with his foot, hitting all six of his extra points in addition to a 21-yard field goal.

WPU has now won three weekly honors this year.
