On this day in 1992, Billy Ray Cyrus began a five-week stay at the top of the Billboard US Hot Country Songs chart with “Achy Breaky Heart”. The song was the debut single for Cyrus off of his 1992 album Some Gave All.
Initially, the song was not favored by critics but has now become his signature song. “Achy Breaky Heart” was Certified Platinum by the RIAA in the US and was a crossover hit. It also became the first single ever to achieve triple Platinum status in Australia and also 1992’s best-selling single in the same country.
