(MAHASKA COUNTY, Iowa) – The Mahaska Health Partnership Hospital Auxiliary recently donated an infant-fetal heart monitor and vital sign machine to MHP for use in the Birthing Center and Inpatient Services. Each monitor donated cost more than $3,000.
According to Birthing Center Director Heather Cook, the new infant-fetal heart monitor provides the Birthing Center with more accurate readings of infant and fetal heart rates. As a part of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), this equipment improves the healthcare professionals provide to newborns at the time of delivery.
In Inpatient Services, the vital sign machine will impact patient care “by allowing nurses to spend more time with patients and less time figuring out vitals,” according to Inpatient Services Director Amanda Rynearson. The new machine will also provide more accuracy in tracking vitals to ensure that proper treatment plans are developed.
The MHP Hospital Auxiliary is a volunteer organization that helps promote and advance the welfare of MHP and its mission. Members help purchase needed medical equipment and support various hospital programs that benefit the community.
Formed in 1955, the MHP Hospital Auxiliary has provided support to the hospital through money raised by operating Whispering Tree Gifts, located on the lower level of the new patient care wing at entrance #4. The volunteer organization also hosts a variety of fundraisers throughout the year, including uniform, jewelry, plant and book sales.
The annual Masquerade Jewelry Sale, open to the public, is set for Wednesday, April 25 from 9 am to 4 pm in the Cedar Bluff Learning Center at MHP. This location is best accessed through entrance #3.
