On this day in 1978, Willie Nelson’s Stardust made it to #1, enjoying a total of 551 weeks on the charts. ┬áThe album as universally praised, and produced two number one hits for Willie, “Georgia on My Mind” and “Blue Skies.” In 2002, the album was certified quintuple platinum, and it was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame class of 2015.

September 1st: On This Day

On this day in 1978, Willie Nelson held the #1 position on the chart with “Blue Skies.” The popular song was originally written by Irving Berin in 1926 and has been covered by more artist than just Willie Nelson. Names on the list of others who have recorded “Blue Skies” include Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Rod Stewart, and many more.
