Following in the footsteps of one-named celebrities such as Bono, Cher, and Madonna, Billy Ray Cyrus has decided to change his name to just Cyrus. The singer revealed the news in an interview with Rolling Stone Country, telling the publication that he’ll go to the hospital where he was born in Bellefonte, Kentucky, to legally change his name. Cyrus says, “After August 25th, I will be the artist formerly known as Billy Ray. I’m just going by my last name Cyrus. I always went by Cyrus, and I begged Mercury Records to call me Cyrus in the beginning because that’s what I was comfortable with.”
- But this won’t be the first name change in the family, as Billy Ray’s famous daughter legally changed her named from Destiny Hope Cyrus to Miley Ray Cyrus in 2008.
- In other news, Cyrus has just released a new version of his iconic 1992 hit “Achy Breaky Heart” in celebration of the song’s 25th anniversary. Listen to the new version here.
- Billy Ray joined the song’s writer Don Von Tress and members of the famous Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section to re-record the track in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
