Mahaska Health Partnership has sponsored a four-part learning series called “Soups On Us,” which offers enlightening facts and motivational tips to encourage a healthier lifestyle. These events are scheduled from noon until 1 PM at the Mahaska County YMCA Conference Room. They are free and open to the public, however registration is required by calling 641-672-3303. “Healthy Sleep” is the session that’ll be held on Thursday, April 12.

On March 22, Deziray Harbour will go in for the first part of her two-part brain surgery. This benefit on March 17 is to help the parents of Deziray with expenses of traveling, possible hotel room stay, and food while she is in the hospital in Iowa City. The benefit will be held at the Iowa National Guard Armory in Oskaloosa from 5:00 – 9:00 PM. There will be homemade beef and noodles with mashed potatoes as well as desserts. There will also be a silent auction and several other ways to help out. DJ Brady Pace has volunteered his time for music.
Congressman Dave Loebsack will have Brianna Dennison, Loebsack’s District Representative, in Oskaloosa on Thursday, March 15. Dennison will be at the Mahaska County Courthouse (third floor conference room) from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM. She will be on hand to work with individuals who are having difficulty with a government agency, have suggestions for Dave, or would just like to share their concerns. Public invited.
The U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids is hosting a Job Fair on Tuesday, Jan. 9 from 3-7 PM. Qualified applicants can apply, interview and get hired on the spot! Come prepared with 2 forms of ID and allow time to wait in line for on-site interviews. Please dress for success, come with a positive attitude, and be ready to discuss your skills. We have many Part-Time Openings at the U.S. Cellular Center, Paramount Theatre, McGrath Amphitheatre, and Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
Central United Methodist Church invites you to join us for our annual Christmas Dinner on December 25th at noon. This is our gift to the community. If you are alone for Christmas; don’t want the bother of fixing a Christmas Dinner; or whatever, please feel free to join us for this holiday meal. Pork loin is on the menu, along with the usual fixings. While reservations are not necessary, they will be helpful for our meal planning.
In addition to our church dinner, we invite you to join us for any of our candlelight services on Christmas Eve at 4:30, 6:30 or 11:00 p.m. The 11:00 p.m. service will include an open communion service.

The Bussey Fire Department will host a community blood drive from 3:00 to 6:30 PM on Wednesday, December 6, at the Bussey Community Center, located at 313 Fifth Street in Bussey.
