The song won the 2001 CMA, ACM, NSAI, ASCAP, and BMI award for Song of the Year, as well as the Grammy Award for Best Country song.

On this day in 2000, Lee Ann Womack had the #1 single on the radio¬†with “I Hope You Dance”. The song is off her album of the same name, which also hit number one. The song is considered a crossover hit and Womack’s signature song.

“I Hope You Dance” won the 2001 CMA, ACM, NSAI, ASCAP and BMI awards for Song of the Year. It also won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song and was nominated for Song of the Year as well.

The song has been Certified Double Platinum.
