On this day in 1983, recording began on Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s number one single, “Islands In The Stream.” The song was written by The Bee Gees.

The song was originally written for Marvin Gaye before it was given to Kenny to record on his album  Eyes That See in the Dark.

“Islands In The Stream” would go on to be certified Double Platinum by the RIAA, and the song topped CMT’s poll of the best country duets of all time.
