Well… Happy Thanksgiving, friends and neighbors!
Hard to believe, but it’s been a half a century since the birth of THE Thanksgiving anthem for the ages… I am of course talking about Arlo Guthrie’s “Alice’s Restaurant”. It was Thanksgiving 1965 when Arlo visited his friend Alice, and the epic and surreal real-life saga unfolded that would become the song we all know in 1967.
It’s a hilarious song, and all the more remarkable because most of it is true. So, without further ado, here’s Arlo performing it live in 2005 at Farm Aid:
