TWIN CEDARS ADVANCES, NORTH MAHASKA'S SEASON ENDS ON BUSY DAY IN BASEBALL PLAYOFFS

Twin Cedars Advances, North Mahaska’s Season Ends on Busy Day in Baseball Playoffs

Last night, postseason baseball took center stage in the listening area, and several Class 1A and 2A schools’ seasons came to an end.

On the Mahaska Zone Network, you heard a doubleheader involving area teams. John Martenson had the call for Iowa Valley and North Mahaska, where the Tigers knocked off the Warhawks, 8-2. North Mahaska was only able to muster five hits off of Iowa Valley pitching in the game. Their season ends at 12-14, while Iowa Valley moves into the District 11 semifinals, where they will face Lynnville-Sully, who knocked off Colo-Nesco, 6-5, last night. Also in District 11, Montezuma’s season came to an end, as they fell to Belle Plaine, 13-3. They’ll face BGM on Thursday.

In Class 1A District 12, you heard Twin Cedars get a 14-4 win in six innings over Moulton-Udell. The Sabers surrendered a couple of early runs, but the offense responded with 9 runs in the bottom of the first to get themselves a big lead, and preserve innings for star pitcher Otis Roby, who only had to throw three innings in the win. Twin Cedars will now play Southeast Warren on Thursday, who defeated Mormon Trail, 8-0, last night. That game will be at 7 pm in Bussey, and you’ll be able to catch that one on 99.5 FM and AM 740 KMZN and on kboeradio.com tomorrow night with the pregame starting around 6:45 pm. On the other side of that bracket, Moravia fell to Wayne, 5-1. Wayne will now face Pleasantville, who got a comfortable 10-0 win over Melcher-Dallas in five innings.

In Class 1A District 9, Pekin blitzed Tri-County in six innings, 10-0 to move into the district semis. They’ll face Keota, who had a thrilling 14-12 win over English Valleys last night in 8 innings. On the other side of that bracket, Sigourney was ousted by Lone Tree, 10-3. They’ll play Highland, who slipped by Iowa Mennonite, 8-7.

In Class 1A District 10, Cardinal got a win over Danville, 5-2. They’ll now have to face the undefeated Warriors of Van Buren, who trounced Harmony 22-0 in four innings last night. That game is in Keosauqua on Thursday at 7 pm.

In Class 2A baseball last night, it was Davis County slipping by PCM 9-6 to get to the District 11 Final. They’ll play Albia, who scored four runs late to take a 5-1 decision from Pella Christian. That conference rematch between Davis County and Albia will be in Albia at 7 pm Saturday.
