VERMEER GETS INCENTIVES TO REBUILD AFTER TORNADO

Vermeer gets incentives to rebuild after tornado

Here’s an update to a story the No Coast Network told you last week.  State incentives have been approved for construction of a new plant to replace Vermeer plants destroyed by a tornado last July.  The Iowa Economic Development Authority OK’d $6 million Friday (5/17) for the industrial and agricultural equipment manufacturer. The July 19 tornado destroyed two of Vermeer’s plants.  Most state economic development programs provide incentives for creating jobs, but emergency provisions let companies qualify for aid without creating new jobs. State documents say the incentives will “enable Vermeer to retain 406 employees who were displaced after the tornado.”
